This is a common criticism that I like to call вЂњThe Spiderman 3 follyвЂќ. TheyвЂ™ve bitten off too much with so many leads. True Detective is asking you to come back, and after three episodes, you should now be starting to feel at home with these characters.ДЈ. However if you mingle and talk to lots of people, youвЂ™ll walk away that first night feeling like you donвЂ™t really know anybody, but go back for a few more parties with the same group, and suddenly youвЂ™re in a much more satisfying inner circle. If you meet one person and talk to them for two hours, youвЂ™ll walk away feeling like youвЂ™ve made an instant friend. ItвЂ™s like meeting somebody at a party for the first time. In each, we are quickly introduced to a large number of characters and it takes three or four episodes to get a feel for them, but as time goes on we start to become more ingrained in their lives. ItвЂ™s a very slowly paced show, yes, and the characters were much harder to get into, but IвЂ™m starting to see similarities between this season and the first season of The Wire. The show is too slow, the characters arenвЂ™t interesting. Rust is a character unto himself, and lazy comparisons donвЂ™t do credit to the actors nor characters of the second season.Дў.

Frankly nobody in this show is written as vaguely, yet insightfully. To me, this comes from somebody who barely scraped the surface of the genius of the first season, and is simply comparing the frown of one actor to another. I feel like this is an ideal time to address a few of the criticisms floating around about the show in case they have managed to put people off from watching:ДЎ. The actors are also now really finding their groove with their characters, although itвЂ™s again Vince Vaughn as the stand out for me, despite Colin Farrell seemingly given the most work to do.

A perfect blend of surrealism and harsh reality combining.ДЄs with any TV show, the style doesnвЂ™t change much from one director to another, but what Pedersen manages to do here is clear things up enough to assist the viewer to make their way through the dense plot, and do it without resorting to too much expository dialogue. The opening sequence in particular was a very different, yet very well delivered moment. The directorial reins were handed over to newcomer Janus Pedersen, who does an impressive job at delivering a well-paced episode, particularly for a man with only 8 directing credits to his name, and only his second for television. We are presented with an episode that still focuses heavily on character over plot, but not exclusively at the detriment of plot. They say that good things come in threesвЂ¦or is it bad things that come in threes? I know jokes definitely come in threesвЂ¦Well, whichever it is, the third episode of True DetectiveвЂ™s sophomore effort finally delivers the goods.
